Get to know me better!

Hi! My name is Maud, a 24-year-old from The Netherlands, and since a year I've started to take my creative mind seriously.

It's actually crazy how it started.

I've always had my creative phases as a child. I could be outside drawing on the pavement by the front door of my parents house for hours. Or I'd sit quietly at the dinner table scribbling in the sketchbook I got from my aunt as a birthday present. However, I never really found myself making a real art piece, or something that I was really proud of.

As a teenager, I rarely touched paint, coloring pencils, or crayons anymore. I had gotten way too busy with homework, sports, or obsessing over what other people would think of me. Yes, I was a very anxious and insecure teenager, as everybody is at that age.

Thankfully that all changed as I got older and reached my early twenties. I'd turned into a confident woman! I noticed that my need to express myself through creativity had returned, and so I started experimenting.

For a year, I created complex art on my own nails with gel polish. I had a good time! However, once other people started asking for a set of cute nails, I found myself anxious again. Would they like their nails? Is it what they wanted? Am I too slow? You guessed it, I quit.


Fortunately, I found another way to be creative very fast! I actually happened during my time in Canada! I went there for 4 months for my studies and met wonderful people. They showed me how fun craft-nights can be! We would come together after dinner and be creative in our own way. I would bring just a piece of paper, a pencil and an eraser. In contrast, others would bring a travel sized watercolor set and a sketchbook of which I was very jealous...

During these craft-nights I had so much fun drawing motorcycles and flowers, that I continued drawing when I got back to The Netherlands. My boyfriend encouraged me by buying me my first real sketchbook, and a set of professional pencils too!
Not long after, he asked me if I could customize his leather boxing shoes. I was incredibly unsure about my abilities to do something like that! But, he insisted I'd try. And so I did.

They turned out great!!! I was so happy! And he was too! As a first piece of a domino these shoes kickstarted my leather painting business. I painted the shoes of a big name in the boxing world, and of course I painted more shoes for my boyfriend. His and my boxing gloves were next, and my motorcycle jacket did not stay unpainted either.

My love for painting kept growing and growing. I decided to invest in oil paints too. I had started to view the world through different eyes: everywhere I walked, every corner I turned, I could see a painting come to life. That's when I decided to create oil paintings as well. I needed to get these imaginary paintings out of my head and on canvas. That is my life now: painting anything that inspires me. I paint places I've been, hobby's that I love, and I want to share that with the world.
